通常燒化庫錢或紙紮用品都是在功德法會(做七或滿七法會)時，師父會寫疏文與紙紮用品、財寶、庫錢一同進行燒化。 疏文上會寫明贈送者(家屬名字)、財寶數量，及往生者名字、燒化的年月日。

親人要站著，圍成一圈，通常用一條紅繩圍成一圈，紅繩不能落地，大家手扶紅繩，將要給親人的金銀財寶、庫錢和紙紮用品，圍在紅繩範圍內燒化，意喻紅繩裡面的東西是指定給此位往者。

師父帶領儀式進行，會一邊燒化一邊呼喊亡者的姓名，請往生親人來領收，通常師父會將燒化物品寫上黃色的疏文，並寫上陽上親人名字，家屬們沾取紅色印泥加蓋手印，以昭示這是要燒給往者的物品，避免其他好兄弟或孤魂野鬼來搶。
